CONSPIRACY THEORY ONE TRILLION AND ONE
Recently, a friend sent me information on a group that is attempting to “educate” people about United Nation’s Security Council Resolution 21, established in 1947, which these patriots believe is a ploy by certain power brokers to achieve world domination. The latest fear is if countries unite to save the environment, it will be the first step down a slippery slope to universal enslavement. No evidence is given for these charges, but they seem to get the adrenalin going anyway.
I admit writers have spawned some compelling novels about big government and the loss of individual rights — Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New world” and George Orwell’s “1984” among them, andhuman history has given us more than a few examples of monsters in our midst. Still, I think it unhealthy to live like a child in the land of perpetual boogey-men and to imagine a conspiracy exists simply because a conspiracy is imaginable.

This fear of world domination by a single authority has been around since the United Nations was formed in 1945, if not before. Yet, after 66 years, I see no imminent threat of it. Quite the reverse. I see nations constantly squabbling with one another and armed for war. Frankly, individuals who believe in the current conspiracy theory are probably more optimistic about people than I am. I continue to put my faith in the dysfunctional nature of the human race.
