A week has passed since the 2016 US Presidential election and I’m still reeling from shock. For some reason, titles of classic novels keep swirling in my head — examples where art seems to mirror life. I worry about the future of my country, of course. The comfort is, I’m not alone in that worry. Enough of us exist to give me hope the nation will survive. Still, I am a writer and, for me, literature represents humankind’s highest form of expression. So, I’ve decided to make lemonade out of last week’s lemon and invite my readers to join me in a game of shock and awe.
Below are titles from literature familiar to most of us. They seem to capture the spirit of the election. Will the list make you smile or shake your head? In either case, get your little grey cells going and send me your titles. Make me laugh or cry.
Ship of Fools
Gone With The Wind
Lost Horizon
Call of the Wild
Heart of Darkness
The Suicide Club
The Winter of Our Discontent
Little Shop of Horrors
If I Ran the Zoo
Alice in Wonderland
Pride and Prejudice
Your turn!
